From End to Beginning...

"Thanks to you all, we have averted catastrophe. It was not without its price, however. But steel is forged through fire and, like it, we have been made stronger. We are prepared for what the future brings. I know this, because I see the potential in all of you. Many challenges still await us. But I have seen some who have been our enemies, become friends. And with a heavy heart, I have seen the dearest of friends become the most terrible of enemies. I have seen my X-Men grow and change. And, of course, I have seen that some people never change. But one thing was clear. That no matter what awaits us, terrible or wondrous, the X-Men will always be there, ready. And of that, I am proud." ---Professor Charles Xavier

The attack was swift and unforeseen. The mansion's grounds were overrun and the X-Men completely overwhelmed. An old enemy, sentinels, had resurfaced. But they were different, adaptive, and faster than before. And while the mansion itself was undisturbed, when the dust cleared, the Professor, and the X-Men, were gone.

Out of respect for what Charles Xavier represented, Nick Fury, Director of SHIELD, personally looked into their disappearance. But he found nothing. There was not a single trace left at the scene. It was as if nothing had happened. If it weren't for the signal the sentinels released upon reactivation, there would be no clue as to what even attacked.

Nick Fury refused to believe that such a powerful enemy could exist without anyone's knowledge. And for them to be targetting mutants specifically, he knew that this was something neither he nor the Avengers could handle. In his experience, he knew that the world needed the X-Men, despite his personal feelings and the world's animosity towards them and their kind. And after coming to personally know the members of their team, they were the sort that he would welcome at his side and at his back in any and every crisis situation.

Utilizing SHIELD funding and their vast resources, he reopened the school and hid what happened from the general public. He intends to find this enemy and shoot them in the head. But to do that, he is going to need a new team of mutants that can, and will, rise to the occassion. He is going to need a new team of X-Men.
